Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)

VCAA Requirements

The VCE is administered by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).

In selecting units of study for your program you must include:

• At least 4 units from the English group of subjects. This includes English, English Literature and VCAL Literacy

Satisfactory Completion

To be eligible for the award of the VCE you must satisfactorily complete at least 16 units including:

• At least 3 units from the English group of subjects
• ​At least 3 sequences of units 3&4 studies other than English

Nathalia Secondary College Requirements

Year 11 students

• Must study English units 1 & 2 or English Literature
• Must study 5 other subjects (1 from each block of subjects)
• Will have approximately 6 unsupervised study lessons each week. These must be spent in the school library or a Year 11 classroom. 

Year 12 students

• Must study English units 3 & 4 or English Literature
• Must study at least 4 other subjects
• Will have approximately 5 unsupervised study lessons each week. These must be spent in the school library or Year 12 classroom.

Students wishing to vary the Nathalia Secondary College requirements will need to apply to the Principal in writing requesting permission to do so.

It is expected that all students will be “fully enrolled” at Nathalia Secondary College to enable them every opportunity to meet their full potential.
