Pathways:
As students move into Years 11 and 12, many pathway opportunities open up. Students are supported with career advice to assist in making pathway decisions.
Students can choose the following pathways:
Traditional Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE)
• VCE which includes a part time Apprenticeship
• VCE which includes a VET Certificate
Nathalia Secondary College shares a number of VCE subjects with St Mary of the Angels Secondary College. This means that students from Nathalia Secondary College attend classes held at St. Mary’s and vice-versa. Student choice drives the VCE units on offer and the joint timetable that is developed.
VCE Subjects include:
Agriculture | Art | Biology | Business Management | Chemistry | Design & Technology | Drama | Health and Human Development | English | Food & Technology | Further Mathematics | General Mathematics | Geography | History | Literature | Legal Studies | Mathematical Methods | Media | Music | Outdoor & Environment Studies | Physical Education | Specialist Mathematics | Physics | Psychology | Systems Engineering | Visual Communication & Design
Victorian Certificate of Education (Vocational Major)
The VCE Vocational Major (VM) is a vocational and applied learning program within the VCE designed to be completed over a minimum of two years. The VCE VM will give students greater choice and flexibility to pursue their strengths and interests and develop the skills and capabilities needed to succeed in further education, work and life. Students in this pathway must complete compulsory units of Literacy, Numeracy, Work Related Skills & Personal Development Skills, along with a compulsory 180 hours of VET*. This pathway is tailored for students who prefer a hands-on learning approach. Students undertaking the VCE-VM are likely to be considering traineeships or apprenticeships or further education in a TAFE institution post-secondary school. However, there are some universities that will consider students who have completed a VCE-VM. As part of their VCE-VM program, students are expected to complete at least one traditional VCE subject and students are guided to consider subjects that best complement their VCE-VM program and pathway options.
*VET courses are offered in a cluster arrangement with St Mary’s of the Angels and St Augustine’s College Kyabram. Students can also access VET courses from other providers, e.g. GOTAFE.
